I'm looking for a document or other source that will accurately predict the kva draw of a BladeCenter H with 8 HS21 blades:
All with 2xdual core 3.0 Ghz Xeons
4 blades w/4x2GB DIMMs
4 blades w/8x2GB DIMMs
no hard drives
all in 1 slot config
2xQlogic FC switches
2xCisco Gig switches
We are sizing up a new UPS and need this info as fast as possible.
Thanks!

UPS Sizing
Mon, 07/14/2008 - 17:44 — PowerCooling1You are correct in wanting to know the actual power draw of your configured blade center, but I would caution about using this to size up the UPS.
If you never plan on adding or changing blades, you are OK to size the UPS based on actual blades installed. However if you ever change to higher power or more blades, you might find yourself out of UPS power.
Once answer to this is to use a scaleble UPS which where you can simply slide in power modules and batteries as you grow.
An APC Symmetra is an example of such a scaleable UPS.
Even with a scaleable UPS, you should make sure that its makimum VA per frame is based on the full nameplate rating of the BCH in case you ever expand.
Note that the latest generation of UPS units are quite efficient even at partial load.
Maybe this will help maybe not
Tue, 05/13/2008 - 14:59 — nateklaphakeOur current setup has 5 blades in it.
2 hs20's and 2 hs21's and 1 hs21 XM.
Below is the readout of the Bladecenter MM
BladeCenter Chassis Power Summary
Total DC Power Available 6760W
Total AC Power In Use * 1334W
Total Thermal Output 4551.6 BTU/Hour
How about it folks?
Fri, 05/09/2008 - 04:41 — chris_baileyAnyone got any ideas on this one?
Do you still need a hand?
Wed, 05/14/2008 - 14:39 — kyle.ohmeAlthough we have been after some better calculators on the site we have not got very far. I can assist if you still have open questions. I had to do the same thing not that long ago, i can tell you that the H is a beast for power. For us it was not really the draw as much as it was just consuming the breakers.
If you have solved this then I apologize it took so long for anyone to respond!
